The number unaccounted for after this weekend’s catastrophic flash flooding at the bottom of Grand Canyon National Park has dropped to just one, down from as many as 15, after air crews evacuated dozens of hikers and campers.
The body of a 46-year-old man was recovered from Crystal Rapids on the Colorado River; monsoon rains triggered the flooding at the canyon’s bottom.
About 40% of the Transcanyon Waterline, the park’s only water source, was destroyed, prompting officials to bar overnight stays and impose emergency water restrictions on the park’s 1,600 year-round residents.

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is stepping down, the White House confirmed Monday, becoming the latest top military official to leave the Trump administration amid widely reported tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
No official reason was given, but the departure follows Hegseth’s April ouster of Army Chief Gen. Randy George and the June exit of Gen. Christopher Donahue, the Army’s Europe-Africa commander.

Ternus, a 25-year Apple veteran and former head of hardware engineering, becomes just the second CEO in company history after founder Steve Jobs. Cook will remain on Apple’s board as executive chairman, focused on policy and external engagement, while Ternus takes over day-to-day operations.

A Las Vegas jury convicted Duane “Keffe D” Davis of first-degree murder Monday for orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting that killed rap icon Tupac Shakur, nearly three decades after the case went cold.
Jurors deliberated less than three hours after a two-week trial, convinced by Davis’s own words in police interviews and a 2019 memoir describing the shooting in retribution for a casino brawl.
🛩️ Germany Blames Russian Intelligence for Foiled Airport Drone Attack
German officials formally blamed Russia’s GRU military intelligence service Tuesday for a foiled drone attack on a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport in early August.
U.S. intelligence assessed the drone crossed the airport fence and struck a parked cargo plane’s wing on August 4 without detonating, in what officials believe was an attempt to disrupt shipments to Ukraine.
